Comfortable Win Continues The Good Start

Victory in our first home league game of the season

A 3rd straight league win in relatively straight forward fashion which should have an in all honesty been by a far greater margin than the eventual 4-1 scoreline. The starting XI was changed with Joe Pursell coming into the team to replace the injured Liam Jahn between the sticks, Will Wright came in to the defence with the absence of Ross Butler. Ben Green came in for his first start of the season whilst Jamie Cox and Jakk Pursey came into the centre midfield. Toby Cribb, Tommy Cooke, Jacob Hack, Scott Parker and Peter Maxey made up what was a very strong bench.
The game started in a scrappy manor where we dominated possession but didn’t really get going. 10 minutes in and we started to create chances which we passed up with quite alarming regularity. Darryl had a shot cleared off the line, Ben Green had a couple of efforts saved by the keeper as well as hitting the bar from 25 yards. We eventually went in front after 21 minutes when Aaron’s corner from the right was headed home by Darryl. We doubled our lead on 30 minutes when Ben Green retrieved his own rebound off the keeper before squaring for Dale to tap home. In the 42nd minute the 61FC number 4, who should have already been sent off for a selection of somewhat agricultural challenges, handled a corner into the box. Darryl tucked the penalty home. It remained 3-0 at half time.
We extended our lead after 52 minutes when Ben Green was put through by Scott and finished into the far corner. We passed up some very good chances from here on in as well as the 61 keeper making several decent saves. Peter Maxey replaced Dan Smith on 60 minutes, Scott Parker replaced Dale Collins after 66 mins. More chances came and went before Cribb replaced Scott V on 72 minutes. 61 got on the scoresheet after 79 minutes when a straight ball was tucked home by the forward. There was just time for the Linesman to chalk off Darryl’s hat trick goal when he was blatantly onside but not a surprise given the linesman’s overall approach.
A good win with tougher tests ahead. With a big squad and more rotation on the cards we will know where we are after the next few games.
Man of the Match was Aaron Bhasin.
