Run of 14 Straight League Wins Comes to an abrupt halt at Codicote

As they say all good things come to an end and the same can be said for our winning league run stretching back to March of this year. Liam Jahn returned in goal, into the starting line up came Peter Maxey, Jacob Hack, Tommy Cooke, Toby Cribb and Shaun Ennis for his first start since the Berks and Bucks cup final.
In what was an even contest throughout, chances were at a little bit of a premium. We should have gone ahead midway through the half when Tommy Cooke headed wide when unmarked 5 yards after good work from Dan Smith. Codicote continued to cause us some problems and showed incredible levels of desire and work rate. The Codicote keeper made an exceptional close range save from a Darryl Smith header towards the end of the half which meant we went in level at the break. We started the second half on the front foot but continued pass up very decent chances. We went a goal down on the hour mark when a cheap free kick was conceded by Ennis and the resulting strike went into the left hand corner of the net from 20+ yards.
We continued to create chances in the main from set pieces but Tommy Cooke fluffed his lines when 5 yards out and pulled a simple chance wide. Darryl Smith had a header cleared off the line. Jakk Pursey came on for Jacob Hack, Will Wright came on for Scott Valentine and Jamie Cox for Peter Maxey to try and get back in the game but despite good possession and chances, Codicote defended well and had chances on the break. In the dying moments Shaun Ennis headed over when presented with a great chance and that was the game. A poor result and a poor performance in the main despite going down to the only shot on target from the hosts. Credit to Codicote who showed tremendous work rate throughout the game.
We have a weeks break due to the upcoming Wedding of Shaun Ennis and we return to action in 2 weeks with a tough trip to Mursley.
